Abstract:: The article discusses the mandatory-minimum sentencing laws for marijuana offenses in the United States. Background information concerning the purpose of the sentencing laws is presented. The article explores the consequences of these sentences, which include the crowding of federal and state prisons by minor offenders and the eventual release of violent criminals for lack of prison space.
