A CASE THAT WON'T QUIT

Section: PERISCOPE

UPDATE

One of the nation's most controversial child-custody eases is heading back to court. Eight years ago, Washington, D.C., plastic surgeon Elizabeth Morgan sent her daughter, Hilary, then 5, into hiding rather than permit the child to have court-ordered visits with her father, Eric Foretich. Morgan accused Foretich of molesting Hilary, and spent two years in jail for defying the court. In 1989 Morgan was released and joined Hilary in New Zealand with her grandparents. Now Morgan wants to return home, but the issues of custody and abuse, which Foretich has steadfastly denied, have never been fully resolved. A hearing in a Washington, D.C., court is scheduled for next week.
